Constitution

  1. The name of the Society is “MPA-Motivation, Power & Achievement Society”.

  2. The purposes of the Society are:
    • To assist in the rehabilitation and promote the well-being of psychiatric patients and former psychiatric patients.
    • To establish and operate social, vocational and recreational services; residential facilities for primarily low and moderate income clients; and crisis intervention for the above purposes.
    • To encourage self-help and independent decision making by psychiatric patients and former psychiatric patients.
    • To research, publish and distribute information for the above purposes.
    • To acquire funds and other assistance for the above purposes.
  3. No director shall be remunerated for being or acting as a Director but a Director may be reimbursed for all expenses necessarily and reasonably incurred by him/her while engaged in the affairs of the Society. This provision is unalterable in accordance with the provisions of the Society Act.

  4. Upon the winding up or dissolution of the Society any funds of the Society remaining after the satisfaction of its debts and liabilities shall be given or transferred to such recognized Canadian Charitable Organization in British Columbia promoting aims similar to that of the Society as may be decided by members of the Society at the time of winding up or dissolution. This clause is unalterable in accordance with Section 17 of the Societies Act.

  5. No employee of the Society shall be entitled to become or remain a Director or officer of the Society during the period of his/her employment with the Society. This provision is unalterable in accordance with the provisions of the Society Act.

  6. In addition to their responsibilities under the bylaws and the Society Act, the Directors’ primary responsibility shall be program and policy development and the acquisition of funds for the purposes of the Society. The Directors shall stand as an independent active governing body of the Society and shall be responsible for the effectiveness of services provided and shall be financially accountable for funds received from all sources. This provision is unalterable in accordance with the provisions of the Society Act.

  7. The Society shall not distribute any gain, profit or dividend to any member of the Society. This provision is unalterable in accordance with the provisions of the Society Act.

  8. The Society shall be carried on without purpose of gain for its member(s), and any profits or other accretions to the Society shall be used for promoting its purposes. This provision is unalterable in accordance with the provisions of the Society Act.

  9. The Society shall carry on works exclusively of a charitable nature. This provision is unalterable in accordance with the provisions of the Society Act.
