Psychosocial Rehabilitation

Commitment to Recovery from Mental Illness

MPA Society is a recognized leader in providing community based mental health service programs. MPA members work in partnership with staff towards the goal of recovery from mental illness. Central to this partnership in the recovery process are shared beliefs in:

  • Hope
  • Mutual Respect
  • Dignity
  • Self-Determination
  • Empowerment
  • Individualized Approach to Service Design
  • Focus on real world meaningful activities
  • Shared decision making
  • Prevention of unnecessary hospitalization

MPA Society has been practicing the guiding principles of Psychosocial Rehabilitation before it was being described in academic literature. The reason was simple; MPA was formed by people experiencing the debilitating effects of mental illness during a time when stigmatization and shame resulted in only institutional services being available.

This group of proud and capable people adopted an approach to service design and delivery from their perspective ensuring the real needs of the mentally ill were being properly served with respect, dignity, hope and the chance to recover from their illness.
